A Petaling Jaya Family Since 1978

The story of Lanwin Tailor began in 1978 when our founder's grandfather opened a modest cutting room in the bustling heart of Petaling Jaya. Armed with a single heavy-duty sewing machine and a dedication to traditional craftsmanship, he set out to dress the local community in garments that fit impeccably and stood the test of time.

As the business grew, Lanwin Tailor proudly became the exclusive regional partner of the heritage house Finch & Co. Tailors, bringing their world-renowned standards of bespoke menswear to Selangor. Louis Chua now leads the workshop as the third-generation Master Tailor, preserving those rigorous old-world techniques for a new generation of clients.

A Craft Passed Through Three Generations

Louis grew up surrounded by chalk dust, measuring tapes, and the rich texture of imported wools. He took the helm to ensure that the Finch & Co. construction methods, full and half-canvas work, hand-stitched buttonholes, and the proprietary 27-point measurement system, were never lost to the convenience of mass production.

Alongside him, head cutter Ahmad Sulaiman brings more than thirty years of pattern-drafting experience to every commission, while fabric specialist Mei Ling curates breathable tropical suiting that stands up to Malaysia's heat. Together, the team blends classic construction with contemporary Malaysian silhouettes, and every client works directly with the artisans cutting the cloth.

Woven Into the Community

Lanwin Tailor has grown almost entirely through word of mouth. From outfitting Petaling Jaya business owners in the 1980s to crafting wedding suits for the grandsons of our original clients today, we are deeply woven into the fabric of the community. Our archives of client patterns date back to 1978, giving us a continuity very few workshops in Selangor can match.

We believe in honest advice, quality materials, and the transformative power of clothing that truly fits. A bespoke suit is not just about looking good, it is about feeling confident and comfortable in the tropical climate of the Klang Valley. That is the kind of tailoring we were trained to do, and it is the only kind we know how to do.
